About the artist, Toy
Born James Noble Barnes, his older siblings dubbed him “Toy”, and that name remains his handle today. Toy followed in his father’s footsteps as a pipeliner, working many locations including the Alaska pipeline. Even though he spent the good part of his life traveling from job to job, Toy has a home in Hartford, Kentucky. His present residence is the federal prison in Lexington, where he began painting a few years ago under the mentoring of a fellow inmate with a masters degree in art. Toy quickly became an accomplished artist in various mediums, and his works are displayed in several states, including California, Kentucky, Indiana, and North Carolina. The paintings featured on this website are the property of his sister and are housed in her gallery called My Brother’s Paintings in Newburgh, Indiana.
